Welcome To The New Ice Age

Science and Technology
Science and Technology

This is for [K9] Cerberus - with love and affection  :)

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

China is surviving its most brutal winter in a century. Temperatures in the normally balmy south were so low for so long that some middle-sized cities went days and even weeks without electricity because once power lines had toppled it was too cold or too icy to repair them.

There have been so many snow and ice storms in Ontario and Quebec in the past two months that the real estate market has felt the pinch as home buyers have stayed home rather than venturing out looking for new houses.

In just the first two weeks of February, Toronto received 70 cm of snow, smashing the record of 66.6 cm for the entire month set back in the pre-SUV, pre-Kyoto, pre-carbon footprint days of 1950.

And remember the Arctic Sea ice? The ice we were told so hysterically last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record? Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past.

The ice is back.

Nice cherry picking of data there. A common trick of deniers. Pick 1 thing that backs up their claim and ignore everything else that contradicts it.
Why don't you bring up what NASA has to say.  http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2007/ [data.giss.nasa.gov] What do you know NASA's data shows that temps are rising. big surprise. Let me explain to you the flaw in your hypothisis. This is classic cherry picked data at its finest and if you just belive what you read without doing further research you fall for it.  Here it goes these are Temps from individual places not global average TEMP as a whole which NASA has proved is still on the rise. You can't say it was cold this year in Canada and China therefore it must not be getting warmer. Wrong!!! tring to determine global TEMP by only looking at a few select places is like tring to tell the time by only looking at the second hand. Again Cherry picked data all you do is quote the data the agrees with you and ignore the rest. So big deal it was colder this year in canada and china... how about the arctic and antarctic? what about the sahara desertand ocean Temps? (you know why thoes are the only 2 places in the world where the temps fall into their preconceptions.) Does china and and Canada constitute the entire world? Hell no. So what does the TEMP in these places have to do with global TEMP? Nothing other than they add to the data. Which NASA has shown is still on the rise. http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2007/ [data.giss.nasa.gov]
Scientists have been saying for years now that global warming does not mean every place on Earth gets hotter. Some places get colder, much colder. The weather patterns change, and arctic air can be brought down to areas on the planet that don’t usually get them. Global warming does not mean everyone is going to get warmer. some places will get much colder. It means that the GLOBAL AVERAGE TEMP is on the rise.
So in short global TEMP is on the rise. The Data proves it. cherry picked data at its finest.
BD you could have saved alot of trouble By looking at the source of the article Lorne Gunter Lets look at some of his other articles shall we.  http://fathersforlife.org/articles/gunter/index.htm [fathersforlife.org] Sounds like a man with an agenda to push. Nice biased non peer reviewed article there and where was it posted to oh yeah The National post. Canada's answer to fox news. haha.
Plain and short this is cherry picked data. Temps in China and Canada do not represent the entire world. Its like those people who go outside and say its cold out; so much for global warming. (because obviously what happens outside their front door must be happening all over the world.) NASA's data contradicts this guys biased assumptions. (Hes not even a scientist he's a collumnist (since when do we get our science from columnists?)
The only way your gonna see another ICE AGE is to rent it on DVD.
Come on BD you can do better than that that was too easy.

I note with interest that the well worn phrase 'global warming' is now being referred to as 'climate change'. Hah! That allows for a multitude of different weather conditions doesn't it?
Temperature goes up......climate change..........temp goes down........climate change......etc,etc,.......good thinking men, keep 'em all guessing..
